Phyto- and nanoplankton

Quantification of bacterioplankton and nanoplankton and identification of heterotrophic and autotrophic nanoflagellate species present in aquatic ecosystems.  The procedures for analysis are based on the techniques described in Porter and Feig (1980), Hass (1982), Lee and Fuhrman (1987), and Børsheim and Bratbak (1987).  The observation of the organisms is done by utilizing an inverted epifluorescent microscope.

Phytoplankton

Identification and quantification of phytoplankton species present in continental, coastal and oceanic waters.  The procedures for analysis are based on the techniques described by Utermöhl (1958), which include the quantification of organisms in sedimentation chambers utilizing the inverted microscope.

Zooplankton

Identification and quantification of species belonging to the zooplankton present in continental, coastal and oceanic waters.  The identification of the organisms is done utilizing a stereoscopic magnifying glass.

Benthic Macroinvertebrates from soft bottoms.

Identification and quantification of species present in soft-bottom sediments.
